Description
Exercise plays a vital role in helping to prevent dementia as well as increasing the wellbeing for people already living with the condition. This e-learning course has been designed to provide an insight into dementia within a leisure environment, and allow you to see a leisure facility through the eyes of those living with the condition and understand the unique challenges they face. Dementia Awareness also imparts practical advice which can be applied to improve the leisure experience for people living with dementia.

Modules:
1. Introduction
Outlines the aims and objectives of this course, including the capabilities of people living with dementia.

2. What’s going on
Examines the symptoms of dementia, as well as various forms of the condition. Real world examples
are also included to illustrate the challenges dementia can cause.

3. Consider the changes
Looks in detail at what actually happens when someone develops dementia, and the damage that
happens to the brain.

4. See it my way
Discusses how various the various sensory impairments of dementia can have an impact within
a leisure environment. It focuses particularly on how vision can be affected, specific challenges in
different parts of a leisure facility (e.g. gyms, pool and changing facilities) and how to effectively
communicate.

5. Knowledge check
A quiz requiring an 80% score to pass.

Approximately 40 mins (including quiz), though no time limit set.
